Present for Ike

Dear all,
Hope you have been following this blog closely...
This is definitely the place to comment, add ideas and thoughts for the few days we will be spending together.
One of the things we have been thinking about - is what do you get a 90 year old as a present.
And one of the ideas we have come up with is giving money to charity. The next obvious step was to think of the MDA that Grandpa has always been so keen on (to the extent he will not be transported in any other ambulance when there is a need). Apparently he was at the opening of the MDA station in Kiryat Shmona, back in the day. I am close enough to the charity world to know that if you give your money to the MDA you never really know where it goes. After consulting a collegue who knows this world inside out he recommended I make direct contact with the MDA station in Kiryat Shmona (as we will be round the corner from there), explain the situation to them, and ask what we can buy for the station which will improve the time the volunteers spend there. Television, fridge, microwave, etc.
That was one idea of charity, other ideas which are also pretty direct, and one can be confident about the final destination of the money, is scholarships, giving money to Tel Hai academic college and naming a class room, dorms etc. Donating books to a library, shul, etc.
I liked the Kiryat Shmona idea because we can all go there while in the North, and present the station director with the gift, take some pictures, I think that will give Grandpa plenty of Naches.
Would love to hear peoples thoughts on the subject.
Stay tuned as tomorrow we post the T-shirt design and you will be requested to give your size.
Itinerary to follow too.
See you soon,
The Israeli Contingent.
